Lindsay Byers-Wagner

As an extrovert who loves performing and public speaking, I spent a large part of my life dreaming about, working towards, and eventually becoming a litigator. However, I found that litigating issues related to divorce resulted in a “one size fits all” approach that not only disregarded the specific and personal needs of each family, but was costly, bred animosity, and disempowered my clients.

Collaborative Divorce, however, allows my clients to feel empowered to define their future on their own terms and find resolutions that work for their specific circumstances. Using the Collaborative Process, Mediation, and other alternative dispute resolution options, I am honored to guide clients through the entire separation and divorce process in a manner that is dignified, cost and time efficient, and that preserves the autonomy and co-parenting relationship of the parties.

I understand that when folks seek out a family law attorney, they are likely going through an unknown and scary transition period and that it is important to communicate clearly, consistently, and with compassion. No matter the level of conflict, unwinding your marriage is never easy, and I strive to create a safe environment where clients are comfortable sharing their concerns and hopes for the future.

A “double Tar Heel,” I earned my undergraduate degree in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and law degree from UNC School of Law. While in law school, I served on the executive board of the Carolina Public Interest Law Organization, was actively involved in the Public Interest Mentor/Mentee program, co-founded UNC Law’s Chapter of If/When/How: Lawyering for Reproductive Justice, served as Chief Articles and Notes Editor for the First Amendment Law Review, and was recognized for completing over 80 hours of pro bono work.

I met my husband during my first semester of undergrad, and since then our lives have been full of traveling, board games, Carolina basketball, and most importantly, spending time with our perfect cats, Roy and Petunia. As a morning person who struggles to stay up past 9 p.m., I have also developed an (arguably unhealthy) affection for espresso. (Ask me about my current favorite—watermelon flavored espresso!)
